Why I Need another Motorcycle

BMW in my garage

For one thing, my BMW gets lonely by itself. Its on the empty side of the garage, the only company is a big ugly SUV in the other bay. (See My New Ford elsewhere)

Also, I have it all equipped for traveling – bags on the back, GPS mount, big windshield, comfortable seat, heated grips and road lights. It looks kind of clunky when the bags are on. Like an old guy’s bike.

And, its a BMW, which is a ‘big’ bike. Even though it’s the smallest BMW makes. It’s tall and bulky.

I’ve had two cars simultaneously before, one big SUV and one small Mercedes convertible (SLK). They both fit in the garage and served different purposes. Insurance was expensive, but it wDucati Denver 01as worth it for the SUV utility and comfort, and the exhilaration of driving the sport car.

So, maybe I’m ready for a Ducati – the Ferrari of motorcycling. (Not the Maserati or Lambo)

There’s room in the garage and money available in the bank. I’ve ridden the 1000 and the 600 and either one is a superior ride. Ducati’s are fragile and expensive to maintain, but they are sport bikes. So, why not have two bikes, one for travel and one for fun?

I’d like to hear your comments. Also, do you prefer the red or the black?

Please let me know soon, as I am anxious to get the Beemer a mate.

Update October 19. The Ducati’s look good, but suddenly it occurred to me that reliability and service availability was important to me. Around town, no problem. On the road, where am I going to find anyone who can fix a Ducati? Unless I’m in Italy. So I went to ride a Kawasaki Versys last week, and it rode exactly like my BMW, except smoother and a little more power, six speeds, better seat, sexier looking and not so expensive! So its metric, whom cares?

So now I’m looking at Kawas for sale and I’m pretty sure that’s what it will be (on the left). Update Jan 2011. Bought a Yamaha FJR instead (on the right).

Makes a lot of scents to me. I’ll have the old lady read it and see what she says.
